About Kubo

KUBO is a digital school management platform for schools in isolated areas in The Gambia, Africa.

Besides that, KUBO provides lessons for the students and administration for teachers. All is done without an internet connection.

The platform aligns with their school method at Afrodidact, and tested at several schools in The Gambia. One fo them is The Swallow school.

Problems

Based on my research (secondary research and interview), I discovered user pain points:

Users don't interact with the website because the website is not interactive.

There's no update about their news, events, and other activities. When users visit the website again, they just read the same thing.

Goals

To have a website that attracts potentials donors

To get more volunteers to work with them

To build trust of potential donors, partners, and volunteers

To get more partners to collaborate with

To inform their donors about the latest new

Target users

  • People who are interested to donor money

  • People and organisations who are interested in Information Technology and are interested in collaborating

  • Students who are looking for internship

  • Rotary clubs

Competitive research

I conducted a competitive analysis, by comparing the other nonprofit websites that provide e-learning in remote areas to KUBO’s current website.

KUBO's current websites

While comparing the competitors websites, I notice that they have:

  • Donate button on homage, which KUBO didn't have

  • Stories of people who got the donation, which KUBO didn't show

  • Clean design

  • Their mission statement on homepage, which KUBO already has

  • Volunteers team photos

  • Stories of volunteers, which KUBO didn't show

  • Update blogs to show their activities, which KUBO didn't do often.

Solutions

To put fresh, fun, and playful style with more color palettes in the website based on KUBO's branding. But also keep the website trustworthy and professional.

To recite stories of their graduated students and how KUBO project had positive impact on their lives or their careers. This can be a strong proof that Kubo can be trusted by donors.

To add Donate button as Call To Action (CTA) button  on the landing page can attract users to click it right away.

Introduce the team

To create connection between users and KUBO team, we will show all KUBO members: their names, their Linkedin profile links, and their contribution on KUBO. This team introduction can also create trust on the users.

Volunteer stories

Add stories of volunteers team: why they want to join KUBO and what are their challenges in this project.

Update news & activities

To inform users that KUBO is still active to do some activities.

Open internship & volunteer

Inform students and people about open internships and volunteers on the website.

Clear hierarchy

Show clear hierarchy on typography.

Show social media

Put the links of all their social medias and how users can contact them

Show KUBO's partner & testimonies

To show all partners they have been collaborated with. Also show their testomonies. This can gain trust on users.

Site map

I conducted a sitemap of the entire website to visualize the information architecture of the site. Also, to get an idea of how many contents and how the contents are grouped.

Resign - high fidelity

The colours I chose are based on their mission:

  • the bright brown represents Africa continent with desert

  • the yellow represents the sun, or some kind of light

  • and green represents the plants.

Thus, the combination of these colours represent Kubo as the plant or tree who brights African young generation with knowledge in technology.
